Installed on Sony DSCV1 digicam, it gives a much wider angle view. Some distortion occurs, but nothing grotesque or unusable.
Short focal length makes stabilizing hand held shots easier. Barrel also provides additional surface area to grip while using. DSCV1 cannot be used in nightshot or nightframing modes, nor can it be zoomed in while WA lens is attached. Movie mode can be used. Built-in flash gets obstructed by lens barrel over a portion of the frame during flash use.
All metal construction has held up remarkably well to abuse over the years.
