The adaptor ring is basically a metallic cylinder with machined threads at each end. In quantity, material and labor are probably less than $1.00. With S&H, the thing cost about $28. While I understand that slow moving items have inventory costs, etc., etc. , it still irks me to pay "avoided cost" rather than "actual cost with a reasonable profit".
Other than being gouged on price, the product works perfectly.

This is a very useful accesory alongwith Sony VFR52K 52mm Neutral Density Filter Kit for MVCCD500.
1) It gives a better grip position for better camera stability. But the best part - The Neutral density filters keep dust, water, snow etc out of the camera lens, so there is less chance of any scratch to the lens. It also provides enthusiasts an option to attach zoom or telephoto lens to the camera.

This adapter ring is just what the camera needs, not only does it keep grit out of the works and add balance to the camera, it also gives you a good place to hold the camera, making it feel much more natural.
I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and wanted to take pictures while it was snowing, but didn't want to get snow and water in the exposed zoom lens part of the camera so I ordered the Lens adapter ring and a set of 52mm lens filters that screw onto the filter. Now the internals are safe.
If you are looking for an accessory to add a little something to your S75/85, go with the adapter ring and a protective filter.
